Frequently Asked Questions

I can illustrate a wide variety of scientific subjects. My particular area of expertise is in zoology, but I am happy to consider potential projects in any scientific or natural history discipline.

My illustrations can be rendered digitally or in traditional media such as pen and ink, ink wash, colored pencil, acrylic paint, and mixed media. I do a lot of mixed media work, as I love the flexibility. With scientific illustrations, precision and accuracy are key. Sometimes, the best way to achieve a certain result or the highest level of accuracy is by using all available tools, rather than limiting oneself to a single medium.

I am also an experienced sculptor, if a three-dimensional approach is needed. My preferred sculpting media are polymer clay and wax/oil-based clays, depending on the desired end product. I'm adept at molding and casting, so I can also produce multiple copies from a master sculpt; these can be cast in rigid or flexible resins (urethanes and epoxies) or in prosthetic-grade platinum cure silicone rubber.

The price will vary depending on the complexity of the project, the intended usage, and the medium or method of execution. If you would like to discuss a potential project, please send me a message via my Contact page and include as many details about the project as possible. This will help me to give you the most accurate price quote I can.

If you are interested in licensing any of my illustrations for commercial or educational purposes, please Contact me for details. The licensing fee depends on the intended usage, and the minimum fee for a single image is $50.
